Rooted in Cuba, Mara is a passionate dance educator, dancer, and choreographer. She graduated from the National Ballet School in Havana, Cuba, and began her professional career teaching at the Instructors Arts School in her hometown (2008–2010) while simultaneously performing with Sol Dance Company (2008–2014).

Since 2015, Mara has been an active member of Calgary’s arts community, sharing her love of dance through teaching at various studios and schools across the city, as well as through personal coaching. She has participated in numerous festivals, performances, and collaborative projects, enriching the local dance scene.

Mara’s journey with jazz dance began when she joined Decidedly Jazz Danceworks’ (DJD) Professional Training Program, where a deep passion for jazz music and movement took root. Immersing herself in the program for two seasons only fueled her curiosity and desire to explore the genre further. Now in her fourth season with Decidedly Jazz Dance Company, she is thrilled for the year ahead.

Culture plays a profound role in Mara’s artistic journey. As someone of Asian, African, and Hispanic descent, she is deeply inspired to explore how her mixed heritage shapes and influences her artistry.
